Sunday, September 1

Everybody ready for a lighter, slower Sunday? This may be the one for you! With Promotion Sunday and Blessing of the Kindergarteners behind us, this week may be a great opportunity to catch up build relationships with some of your core class members.

You may have noticed something this past week which I just now discovered - I posted the Week 2 lesson instead of the Week 1 lesson. I had them titled incorrectly on my computer, and I apologize! To recover from my error, here is the actual Week 1 lesson, which you will now teach on your 2nd week:

Unit: Why Can't I Sleep In?

BYOB
Remember that next Sunday (September 8) is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible), and we want to encourage all children 3rd grade & up to bring their Bibles. Specifically encourage kids in Alive! to bring the Bibles they received from Christ Church, if they still have them.

If there are any kids in your class who do not have a Bible of their own, let Sarah know - we would be happy to provide them with one!

Amy & Sarah On Vacation this Sunday

Sarah Flannery and Amy Ashton will both be out of town this Sunday (Sept 1). If you have a question about your lesson or Sunday morning, please contact us as early in the week as possible. If you have a question on Sunday morning, see Cindy Bagley (Children's Prepare Coordinator) in the hallway, or Janet Hagerty.

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for your leadership!

Sunday, August 25

Wow! What an incredible Promotion Sunday we experienced. All your classrooms were bursting at the seams, and it was glorious to see you bonding with your small groups on this kickoff Sunday.

This week, we get into curriculum with our classes. Our first 4-week series in the Grapple curriculum is entitled "Why Can't I Sleep In?" In a season when many families may be attempting to get back to church after a summer hiatus, this topic seemed pertinent. You may already have hard copies of your lessons, but here is the electronic version for this week's question:

Remember - this time is about relationships! Use the curriculum as a tool to live your faith in front of this class, and take all the time you need for prayer, prayer requests, and friendships.

Blessing of the Kindergarteners

This Sunday is Blessing of the K's at the 9 & 11:15 am services. You can count on having a slight bump in attendance this week no matter which grade you teach!

Kindergarten parents will attend a parent meeting in Room 005 during the Sunday School hour. Cindy Bagley, Prepare Coordinator on the Children's Ministry Team, will check in on all classes and station herself in the hallway during that hour, so if you have questions or need support, please see Cindy.

Launching Alive! for Fall 2013

The day you've been looking forward to all summer is almost here - Promotion Sunday! As a children's small group leader, you have a relatively easy but incredibly important role. Here is what you need to know:
  • Arrive in Fellowship Hall this Sunday by 10am.

Look for the banner for your age group, and station yourself in that section. There will be chairs for all the kids in your class, and you will greet them and hang with them during the arrival period.

  • Stay with your group during the "festivities" on stage.

At 10:10am, we will send off the new 6th grade class in a special way. Help your age group to pay attention, reminding them that someday they'll get to be on stage!

  • Help your class "win" the I Spy game

At 10:25, we will play "I Spy My Small Group Leader". Sarah will tell the kids things she "spies" about the leaders in the room, and the kids will guess whether it is their leader or someone else's. The first team to have all their leaders identified can head to their classroom.

  • Enjoy snacks, games and decorating in the classroom
From 10:35-11am, your main job is to get to know your kids. Here is a guide for that time, which will be available in your classroom. Have fun together, ask questions, tell them about yourself, tell them how you came to know God, and start off the year on a happy note.

I'll be available throughout the classroom time to answer questions and check in with you. I can't wait to celebrate this fun day together!
