Plan for March 3

Well, how was your first week of Boy Meets Girl? What I saw was very exciting - everyone up and moving around, learning more about one another. I loved it! And kudos to Cindy Barr to starting off this very interesting topic in such a great way.

This week, the saga continues with

Honestly, this was a question I still struggled with in college, and for some of these kids, it might be a little beyond their scope, because they just aren't there yet. And that's okay! Everyone will be in different places, and it's okay for our Alivers to acknowledge that there are differences and we need to treat everyone, even the opposite gender, with love and respect.

Music with Ms. Judy

This is your week for music with Ms. Judy! So, save some of the fun for later and come to Room 005 at 10:10am to do music.

Plan for February 24

This is it, the series you've waited for all year! This week marks the beginning of the Boy Meets Girl series. I'm thinking shock and awe. :)

Here is your lesson guide for this week:

I look forward to hearing all the great questions and answers that arise from the interview activity! This can be a difficult but really special age for kids to realize that the way we are made is beautiful.

Music with Ms. Judy

You do not have music with Ms. Judy this week, but it's coming up quickly! Music with Ms. Judy is next week, March 3. Leave a sign on the door and venture to Room 005 at 10:10am. Enjoy!

Plan for February 17

Alive! leaders, how have you liked this series on prayer? I'm eager to hear what you've learned, what the kids have said, and how prayer has been a part of these last few weeks! Send me an e-mail to let me know.

This week closes out the prayer series with a lesson entitled

I've got to say, I really like the prayer options that are provided. I hope you have wonderful discussion!

Stand-By Leader: Jennie Gomez

As promised, I am happy to introduce Jennie Gomez as a willing and excited standy-by leader for Alive! Jennie is a fantastic teacher, and she just wrapped up some volunteer responsibilities in Student Ministries, making her available to stand in as needed.

If any of you has a last-minute need for backup on a Sunday, feel free to contact Jennie first. Her information is first in a long line of other parents on the Alive! substitute list. You can find that button at the top of this blog page. Thanks to Jennie for her willingness to serve!

Next Grapple Series

Beginning next week, Alivers will grapple with the Boy Meets Girl question! Spring is a great time for this topic, don't you agree? Topics include:
  • Are We Really That Different?
  • Why Can't We Just Be Friends?
  • What's Really Okay?
  • What Was God Thinking?
Enjoy!

Plan for February 10

I hope you enjoyed music last week! I am again sorry for telling you all along that your music would be on Jan 27, then switching you to Feb 3. Thank you all for responding with such flexibility and ease.

This week's topic is one that many adults wrestle with, so our Alivers are getting a jump start! Enjoy letting them ask the question,

Some of the examples in today's lesson are pretty strong, such as God not sparing David's son. I think that the kids can handle it, but you have the liberty to tread lightly if you are more comfortable. If the conversation turns to the question of evil in the world, let them grapple with it, and assure them of God's love, but do not try to answer or fix their worldviews. It's all about asking questions, and giving them a safe place to explore God with their friends!

Teammate Swap!

As you already know, Amy Frederick has stepped up to lead VBS this year, and I could not be more excited about that. Even though I knew she absolutely loves Alive!, I have encouraged her to consider stepping away from Alive! in order to keep her church commitments manageable, and she has agreed.

So, I am thrilled to announce that Jill Tucker has agreed to return as an Alive! leader for the remainder of the semester! Jill will take Amy's place on the schedule, so there will be no changes to your schedule due to this change.

Jill will most likely have house showings throughout the rest of this semester that may occasionally make it difficult to be present on Sunday. I'm also working on setting up a "stand by" leader who can step in at a moment's notice for Jill or any of you. I think it's important to have three people when possible, since you have such a loud and lively group.

Big thank yous to Amy and to Jill for their leadership. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns at all! Thanks to all of you,

Sarah
