Easter Sunday

He is risen!

Happy Easter, everyone. I apologize for being completely out of the loop yesterday for the excitement of Palm Sunday. From all that I hear, you all were fantastic! Thank you for going with the flow!

No small groups, but other opportunities to serve on Easter

There are no small groups on Easter Sunday, so take a week off of lesson planning! However, we do have opportunities for leaders to serve in between services as Children's Ministries ambassadors.

If you are here on Easter, would you be willing to serve as:

  • A Children's Ministries Greeter from 9-9:30am (between services)
  • A Children's Ministries Greeter from 10:30-11am (between services)
  • A Nursery or Preschool Helper from 9:30-10:30am (during middle service)
  • A Nursery or Preschool Helper from 11-12pm? (during last service)
  • Bring a brunch item to the special meal for those who attend the 8am service
  • Attend the 8am service to create space for guests at the later services
Please send me an e-mail if you are available and willing to help us in any of these hospitable ways on Easter!

Rotation plans for Easter

By now, you have probably spoken to your teaching teams to confirm how Easter will affect your rotation. If you are unsure, please contact your teams this week to discuss. Let me know if I can be helpful in that conversation!

Plan for March 24

New Series!

This week, you kick off a new series with your Alive! group. Introducing: the What Really Matters? series. You'll start off this Sunday with

Skipping Easter Sunday, you will continue the next three weeks with these questions:

  • Is being right what matters?
  • Is being the best what matters?
  • Is being happy what matters?
Some of these are great questions for adults to struggle with too... Enjoy the challenge!

Palm Waving

Children, youth and adults are all invited to wave palms at the 8:45 and 11:15 am services. Simply come to Fellowship Hall 10 minutes prior to each service to line up,

Children in Alive! do not need to leave any earlier than usual in order to get to Fellowship Hall on time. Please dismiss at your normal time of 11am, and instruct any 11:15 worshipers to proceed to Fellowship Hall. Thank you, and we hope you can join them!

Large numbers this Sunday

Since this is the last Sunday before spring break, expect a larger crowd than usual. Let me know if you need any extra support!

Plan for March 17

Kudos to Becky and Cindy - you led a difficult lesson on Sunday with grace and wisdom. Well done! This Sunday concludes the Boy Meets Girl series, and I am delighted to say that the materials for this week pass muster. If you would like to customize or update the materials in any way, feel free! Your leader guide is here:

Even though some of these precious 4th grade boys do not have a clue about any of this just yet, these Scripture-filled lessons are great preparation for the feelings and situations they'll encounter over the next couple of years.

Stewardship Curriculum

Just a heads up - beginning April 21, Alive! will join with the rest of the church in a 4-week stewardship curriculum leading up to the capital campaign. The structure of these stewardship lessons is quite different from the structure of Grapple, so I am providing the curriculum early in case you'd like to take a look. There will be plenty of room for you to supplement these materials during this series!

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is coming right up! On March 24, there will be Alive! just as usual. We also want all Alivers and as many parents as possible to participate in the waving of the palms at 8:45 and 11:15. Parents, leaders, students and kids should line up in Fellowship Hall 10 minutes prior to each service.

Alive! can still dismiss on time at 11am. Please make sure to send all 11:15 worshipers to Fellowship Hall from class!

Plan for March 10

I hope music was a great success on Sunday, and I look forward to hearing how these final two weeks of Boy Meets Girl go!

Quizzes from Week 1

During Week 1 of Boy Meets Girl, the kids devised their own interview questions and then interviewed each other. Some of the responses were so cute that I wanted to share them with all of you! If you'd like to read through the interviews, click here.

Lesson for March 10

The topic for this week is "What's Really OK?", with the key concept of appropriate boundaries. I've spoken with Brandon Dirks, Minister for Faith Formation (and father to Kenzie (5th) and Baxter (3rd), and we agree that this is a great issue to cover with 4th-5th graders as they slowly begin to realize new feelings and situations.

However, the curriculum could use some tweaking on this topic! So, I will link to the lesson here, but I want you to know that I will send an e-mail out to all six of you later this week with an updated version. Please do not plan to move forward with every detail from the lesson you see here - there is more to come!

Thank you!
